According to a recent study, 8 out of 10 students overpay for their student accommodation. And, worst, most students do not even know if they are overpaying or that such legal options are available.
 
As a student the most important thing you can do is check your rent to make sure you are not overpaying

The national student union, LSVb, has set up a housing hotline; a legal service that offers legal advice to students that need it. It is a perfect place to start if you feel like your landlord is doing something illegal.

We understand that the housing situation for students in Maastricht is precarious, and has resulted in a great number of scams.

In general, we advise students to take a more skeptical stance when searching for a room. This applies to dealings with landlords and even "established" rental agencies.

Most of the information you need when it comes to recycling and disposing of your garbage can be found in the Milieu App .

The app was developed by the municipality and contains information in both Dutch and English.

It has useful features, like a map showing the different recycling points around the city, a waste calendar (which can also be downloaded here, in Dutch) to keep track of when your garbage gets collected, and a detailed list of every object you can imagine and the proper way it should be disposed of.

The Huurteam Zuid-Limburg  has supported students with rental problems since 2015.

The Huurteam caters for all social-sector tenants in South Limburg. They help tenants to solve problems related to the rent of their home. Huurteam does this by providing free advice and information, contacting landlord(organizations) and submitting matters to the Rent Committee. This way, they work towards a fair treatment of all tenants in South Limburg.
